Chekhov

I've been reading some stories by Chekhov. So far my favorite story of his is called "The Night Before Easter."

Jerome the monk says, "Yes, this is a joyful night. Heaven and earth are rejoicing, all creation is celebrating the holiday. Can you tell me, kind master, why it is that even in the presence of great happiness a man cannot forget his grief?...And the Scriptures point clearly to the vanity of sorrow and regret. Then, why does the heart sorrow and refuse to listen to reason? Why does one want to cry so bitterly?"

I love this Meredith excerpt.

I gave up coffee for Lent. I really don't drink it very often, if I do, I always get decaf. You'd be proud... I'm a tea person now- I usually order tea at coffee shops instead of coffee :)
